LESOTHO

How did the tiny mountain kingdom of Lesotho—totally surrounded by South Africa—stay independent, Kim? Back in the 1800s their founding father, King Moshoeshoe, asked the British for help to fight off Dutch settlers. So, Lesotho became the British colony of Basutoland and they escaped the horrors of apartheid. But they also missed out on South Africa’s stout economic development. My tough travel experience was rewarded with Kim’s View at Maletsunyane Falls.
