MOZAMBIQUE

Kim’s View at Mozambique Island—from Fort São Sebastião—looks out at the Indian Ocean with fishermen sailing their colorful dhows, locals wading in the tide pools searching for shellfish, and the oldest European building in the southern hemisphere. The Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Baluarte was built by Portuguese explorers in 1522, during the era of discovery. Getting to Mozambique Island—cheaply—was an adventure in itself. Wow, Kim, yet another dirt-poor, former Portuguese colony with a Kim’s View; Timor Leste, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and now Mozambique. Sad.
