Before you left us, you asked us to spread your ashes in three special places; near your homes in Colorado and California, and on grandma and grandpa’s grave in Iowa.
So, I thought you wouldn’t mind if I continued spreading your ashes on my next business trip, and Kim’s View was born in 2004 in Puchon, South Korea.
I had no idea that eleven years later I’d start searching for killer Kim’s Views full-time.
“Kim’s View started as my way to remember you, and now it’s my creative passion. My mission.”
The United Nations has one hundred ninety-three member states, so that’s our minimum number. After that, it depends on your my definition of a country.
“If a territory is a member of the UN, IOC, or FIFA, it’s a country and needs a Kim’s View.”
I add Taiwan, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Kosovo.
Tibet and Greenland aren’t members, but they’re amazing places that need a Kim’s View.
So, a Kim’s View in these two hundred “countries” will complete our mission.
You know what, Kim? I followed you when we were young and I’m still walking in your footsteps today.
After you graduated from San Diego State with a degree in French, I started studying Asian languages.
When you searched for grad schools, I learned about Thunderbird—the international business graduate school in Arizona—and then became a T-Bird.
You bought a digital camera, and then I bought one too.
Now I share your passion for foreign culture and photography.
I’m still your copycat, Kim, so … thanks!
“Kim’s View is my way of saying, ‘thanks Sis!'”
The pretty side of backpacking to EVERY country is the mind-blowing Kim’s Views in iconic places—think Angkor, Bagan, Giza, Namib, Patagonia, Vic Falls—and soaking up exotic cultures and fascinating history.
So far, my favorite countries include Colombia, Egypt, Myanmar, Namibia, Tanzania, Ukraine … the list keeps growing, Kim!
These are some all-time-classic Kim’s Views.
But there’s an ugly side of backpacking to EVERY country; there are plenty of crappy places in this world that you’d normally never see.
Luckily, our most interesting stories come from the crappiest places.
Partying with refugees in Nauru and participating in manslaughter in India.
Slogging through poor, forty-year dictatorships and fighting off police extortion in central Africa.
Experiencing cult of personality in North Korea.
Visiting genocide, slavery, and war memorials in Dili, Phnom Pen, Sarajevo, Yerevan … the list is long.
Hey Sis, if any readers think Kim’s View rocks, they can support us by sharing Kim’s View with their friends and subscribing to our free newsletter.
If some readers think Kim’s View sucks—that I’m just another travel blogger posting look-at-me-here selfies—they can share us with their enemies and tell them, “check out this fool!”
“Kim’s View is all about exploring the world, learning something, and remembering you along the way, Sis.”
